Servicing winches

While our friend Vinny was here, he taught me how to service Islander’s winches. This is a job that should be done annually. I had never learned how ro do this essential maintenace work myself.. it involves carefully cleaning all the interior parts of the winch using a wire brush, a tooth brush and paint thinner, and plenty of rags. If old grease is really caked on, it may involve careful scraping with a knife and very fine grade sandpaper. We serviced all of Islander’s six winches one by one. Only two of Islander’s six winched are the same. All the others involved their own learning curves. Posted by Barbara.
