Islander in the Cyclone Pit, Vuda Marina

Islander in the Cyclone Pit, Vuda Marina

On the afternoon of August 13, 2021, Islander was hauled out at Vuda Marina and placed in a hurricane pit. Old tires are stuffed around the hull to keep the boat upright in the pit. Straps are added to hold everything firmly in place. The straps are connected to stakes pounded into the ground. This is most secure way to protect a boat during the hurricane season. Hurricane season runs from November through May in Fiji. Since we were not able to obtain visas to enter Indonesia due to COVID closures, we left Islander in Fiji. We will return next year to continue our circumnavigation. Posted by Barbara
